Nathan Mossey (Hockey Prospect 2021)
MOSSEY , NATHAN
RD – Mount Academy Saints U17 (CSSHLE) 5’11’’ 150
An offense-oriented defenseman, Mossey is another interesting prospect coming out of the Mount Academy U17
program. He is a player that has a lot of good skills that he uses on the offensive side of the puck, such as his puck skills,
his stickhandling and his passing ability. Mossey had the puck on his stick a lot during our viewings of him and he has
good confidence with the puck. Maybe at times he holds on to it a little bit too long before making a play, putting
himself in trouble when trying to break the puck out of his zone, but most times, he would transition well thanks to his
ability to escape the pressure with his skill, or simply pass the puck up ice to a forward with his good first pass. On the
power play, he was used as the quarterback for his team and showed really good puck distribution skills. He has a nice
offensive touch and likes to shoot from the point. Although he may not have the most dangerous of shots, he puts in
into traffic and recognizes when he should shoot it, pass it or just send it on goal for a tip. Mossey has nice defensive
instincts and on the other side of the puck, showed good compete level when it came to defending. Worked hard in his
zone to contain opposing forwards. He does need to improve his skating, which is not terrible but he could be a little bit
smoother. All in all, Mossey definitely has QMJHL potential as a puck moving defenseman who can play on the power
play and log in a fair amount of minutes throughout a game.
